The Queen of Crows is Now Available for Your Kindle, Nook, iPad and More!

First published in March 2010 on DriveThruHorror.com, we’ve expanded our digital offering to include a text-based version for your Amazon Kindle or your Nook from Barnes and Noble. Since this file format is primarily text-based, we went ahead and dropped the price to $2.99 on both the Kindle and the ePub edition. The ePub format, which is available at Barnes and Noble, is also compatible with several other devices including your Sony eReader and your iPhone.

In addition to the new version, we’ve optimized the original, full color file to work with your iPad. Because of the file format, we are currently only able to offer this version to you via DriveThruHorror.com and Lulu.com. This week, we will also begin testing the file on a color version of the Nook. We do plan on offering a print version of the work sometime next year.

If you’re curious about where this book is available or want more information, you can check out the updated book page at Violetwar.com. You can also download or view free samples at Barnes and Noble, Lulu.com and DriveThruHorror.com.

Thanks again for your support!

It’s Nice to be First Sometimes

The Queen of Crows by Monica ValentinelliYou’ll have to excuse me, dear readers, for I’m allowing myself to be happy with something I’ve done. It’s an unusual feeling, as I tend to shy away from self-promotion, but right now I’m basking in the originality of THE QUEEN OF CROWS.

As several of my reviewers pointed out, no one had ever seen an e-book like the one that Shari, Leanne and I had put together. It’s a nice feeling to know we were one of the first enhanced e-books out there. Admittedly, I didn’t really plan on being one of the first authors to embrace a unique format for THE QUEEN OF CROWS e-book. My goal, simply, was to develop readers who would be interested in the setting and the genre. In my mind, that ended up being a huge success because readers have come forward explaining that they haven’t read a lot of native american horror and they enjoyed the attention I gave it.

Just yesterday, I started to notice other authors and publishers chatting about ways on Twitter to enhance their e-books. I suspect we’ll see a lot more unique e-book formats coming out in the months to come. In my mind, that’s a good thing.

To me, the reader always takes the crown. For without readers, an author’s stories would never get read.

25% Off My e-Book Plus Huge Sale on 1,000s of Others at DriveThru

I’m not sure how many of you that read my blog know about DriveThruRPG.com or DriveThruComics.com. Did you know that DriveThruRPG.com is the world’s largest retailer for digital hobby games? I’ve contributed to a few games within the gaming industry over the years. This industry has been really fun to be a part of and I’m excited for my panels at GenCon: Indy’s 2010 Writer’s Symposium, too.

The hobby games industry has been great to be involved with and has been a boon to my creativity and my professional career. The best part about gaming, though, is the people. Leanne, Shari and James, who composed the music for THE QUEEN OF CROWS trailer, are all people I met through gaming.

I’m pleased to announce that our project will be included in the Christmas in July sale at DriveThruRPG.com!

The Queen of Crows e-Book

[Video] Trailer for THE QUEEN OF CROWS e-Book

Hi everyone! I’m really excited to share with you the promotional trailer for THE QUEEN OF CROWS e-book. I’ve been blogging a little bit about the process to create this trailer over at VioletWar.com. One thing that I talked about, was the decision we had to make about the authenticity of the music. Here’s a quote:

The first thing we did was listen to various sounds and whatnot to decide what the feel of the music should be. Did I want the composition to be dramatic and tense or smooth and understated? Did I want an authentic, Native American feel or an inspired take on the music?

We decided that an inspired, more dramatic and textured take on the music was the way to go. We were both able to find some sound effects (Yes, that’s right! I said sound effects!) that will work well with the images and clips in the trailer. While I wanted the music to give you a Native American feel, I felt that it wouldn’t be a good idea to go the historical route for several reasons. — SOURCE: 2010.07.11 Setting Music to the Trailer

The music was composed by James Semple, a professional in the entertainment industry. In addition to his work in film, he also has composed soundtracks perfect for gaming including Four Shadows: Music for Trail of Cthulhu and Dissonance: Music for Esoterrorists.

Without further adieu, I hope you enjoy this trailer. We both had a lot of fun creating it and I’m pretty pleased with the results.

Inside VioletWar.com

One of the things that I’m always conscientious about is providing an image that is both professional and creative at the same time. While I enjoy writing and sharing posts with you on my blog, it’s not the same as what I write for VioletWar.com. There, I can be more personal because people are investing their time to read more about my fiction efforts and my process for writing stories set in that world. Here, I’ve often taken a more professional approach and, in many ways, that has paid off a thousand fold.

Still, this blog is just one aspect of “me.” VioletWar.com is another. There, not only have I been able to share more news about THE QUEEN OF CROWS and what reviews it has gotten, but I’ve also recently started a journal there. It’s been a really fun creative outlet for me and something that supports my efforts for that world. At the same time, it’s beginning to get more personal than I had expected. I’m pretty private, but for whatever reason I’m having a blast just being me.

So, if you’re mildly curious about the world I have built and the novel I’ve been working on, that’s the place to drop by and explore. If not, stay tuned because I’ll definitely be blogging more about topical subjects that are meaningful to both you and me.

Thanks for reading!
