Two-Weeks Update on the Squee Update

Maleficent Queen Avatar

Halloween and other hilarity has pushed me back from the weekly squees, so here’s two weeks’ worth. I posted this today on FB, but I think it bears repeating since this is partly why I started this blog squee’ing project.

Here’s what I said:

“Just because our political leaders are divisive and have tried to lump our entire populace into red vs. blue, I don’t feel we have to follow suit. People cannot be summed up in one word, and the reality of living and breathing in a complex society means that we’re ever-evolving characters in our own stories, not one-trick ponies, who have to work and live together.

That’s why I try to be positive when I can, even though it’s hard some days, because I work and live with all kinds of people–not stereotypes.”

Here’s 14 Reasons I’m squeeing… To catch me up.

1. Once Upon a Time is shaping up great this season!
2. December will be a NaNoNetMo for me. (National No ‘Net Month.) I’ve found some great projects to set up beside me to MAKE ART on five-minute breaks. Huzzah!
3. Had a fantastic meeting with my comics collaborator. Progress!
4. Doctor Who. “Dark Water” FINALLY!
5. Had an anthology approved. Can’t wait to tell you about what I’ll be working on!
6. Halloween was fantastic! I dressed up, scared my friends, made some good eats…
7. Just found out that Hulu Plus allows me to see Constantine and Gotham, plus a mega-ton of documentaries. WOO!
8. There’s apples with oatmeal calling my name… MMMMM… Fresh, cinnamon apples and oatmeal…
9. A productivity trick I’ve learned is to change my desktop/phone wallpaper to black-and-white photography. Further reduces noise and distraction.
10. Family visits—two of them!
11. 80% off Halloween decorations… WOO.
12. Bead workshop this weekend!
13. We started fires! In our fireplace! For the first time ever!
14. This is the results of a few weeks’ worth of folds.

This Week’s Folded Squees

Fizgig Avatar

What’s not to love about Fall? Before I get to today’s list, I want to say “Thank You” to those of you who’ve commented and enjoyed my Letter to Humans Regarding Halloween that I wound up writing and cross-posting. I had a blast writing it!

Okay, on to this week’s squees!

1) Seriously, Pinterest. How many cool things are on this corkboard? WOW!

2) I’m trying to learn origami. The book of papers I picked up is for beginner’s, so it’s stiffer and holds its shape differently. Ah well, gotta start somewhere!

3) Kind of cheating here, but because origami is my New Thing To Learn, I found out that toilet paper origami is a “thing.” Amazing!

4) Discovered Room on the Broom via Hulu.com. Turns out it’s a book, game, app, and has loads of activities for kids. Neat-o!

5) Sephora.com has a photo gallery and they’ve started to upload pictures of Halloween-inspired makeup and nails. This Halloween manicure is pretty cool!

6) Assembled (hopefully) the last of our replacement furniture. We’ll probably have to get another bookshelf though. Joy of joys… Still? It did NOT sit in the box and for a few hours I was an expert mechanical engineer!

7) And last but not least? Elsa and Anna have made their way into the land of Storybrooke on Once Upon a Time. I have to say, character-wise? Anna is a breathe of fresh, heroic air!

37/365 through 43/365

    Mood: I will conquer Monday.
Caffeinated Beverages Consumed: I deny nothing!
Work-Out Minutes Logged Yesterday: Darkness fell and I went to bed early.
In My Ears: A lawnmower. (This is a good thing.)
Game Last Played: Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch

10 Squees into the Future

Mushu Avatar

HUGELY busy getting ready for Context 27 this weekend, so I’m putting together my list of ten squees while rocking it to SOAD (System of a Down).

In no particular order… Here’s days 19/365 through 28/365!

1) A Clean Office: I now have art up on the walls! HUZZAH! And, a pile o’ boxes to unpack yet. Boo. But? It’s very, very good start!

2) Kirigami: One of the pieces that I put up in the kinda-but-not-really-forest-of-skulls bathroom is a piece by a Chinese artist of a raven. Kirigami is the art of cutting paper; you can find out more by visiting the Origami resources website.

3) Soundwave!: Picture hung up, and my Soundwave model is at the ready. YAY!

4) Fall: Okay, I may be the only person in the universe who’s not a fan of pumpkin spice everything. Like bananas, I like mine real thank you. I LOVE Fall, though. And? I do have something pumpkin spice I can try–pumpkin spice curry!

5) No Disassemble, NO!: I take great pleasure in assembling furniture. For the first time ever–we now have an entertainment cabinet. Woo!

6) Getting Sh*t Done: Closed the chapter on a major project last week and looking forward to getting more done. I like the word “DONE!”

7)The “Extended” Versions of Films: It is now official. The extended version of films are often better and more detailed than the shorter versions. Such a HUGE difference extra content makes for movies like Snow White and the Huntsman, The Abyss, The Lord of the Rings films, and more!

8) Halloween Decorations: Because it’s the one time out of the year that I can find the things I want to decorate my house with.

9) Sugar Skull designs: The design of the sugar skull has now made its way into the mainstream. I like the colorful designs and found a decoupage skull I can decorate. Already bursting with ideas! Still, I want to point out that The Day of the Dead is part of Mexican culture. I love the art, but I think it’s important to recognize where this comes from.

10) Maneki Neko: Maneki Neko are Japanese good luck charms always make me squee. Love the lucky cat and glad I found one to hang up!

    Mood: Errands, ahoy!
Caffeinated Beverages Consumed: On my second cup of joe. Rinse, repeat.
Work-Out Minutes Logged Yesterday: More housework. Ugh.
In My Ears: My cat is yelling at me. Whaaaaa?
Game Last Played: Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch
Book Last Read: The Crimson Affair by Lilith Saintcrow
Movie Last Viewed: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
    Latest Artistic Project: Skull earrings.
Latest Fiction/Comic Release: Last Man Zombie Standing. See also: need to write more flipping comics and exercise my art skillz again. Feh.
Latest Game Release: Echoes of War: Thrillin’ Heroics
What I’m Working On: Primarily tie-in games work, original comics, and novels.

On Day 18, It’s a Squee for Spring!

Soundwave Avatar

I LOVE Fall, but I also enjoy the ability to get the most out of every season. This Spring butterfly I learned how to make in class and it’s part of a wedding present. So much fun to make this! And the wings flap! Totally going to experiment with a bat!

Spring Butterfly

Book Last Read: The Crimson Affair by Lilith Saintcrow
Movie Last Viewed: Machete Kills Again
Latest Artistic Project: You’re looking at it!

It’s a Two-Fer Squee Day: 10 and 11

There's a trojan on your computer

The flu has (unfortunately) taken me over. Yesterday’s post was tabled due to the net neutrality protests that effectively stalled out most sites. So today? You get two squees. Bite-sized, but they are there.

Here’s the first one. Ready?

Bunny Slippers

Yep, these are the slippers of CHAMPIONS. I love fall, and I’m enamored with the fact that I can find non-heinous warm and toasty slippers a la Real Genius.

And here’s the second. Which is quite possibly the shortest squee I have ever squeed.

DARK COFFEE.

10/365 11/365

Mood: I am L’il Miss Sniffles
Caffeinated Beverages Consumed: Coffee is the lifeblood that floweth through my veins.
Work-Out Minutes Logged Yesterday: Typing like mad!
In My Ears: Flubber with Robin Williams. *sad face*
Game Last Played: Age of Reckoning: Kingdoms of Amalur
Book Last Read: The Crimson Affair by Lilith Saintcrow
    Movie Last Viewed: Labyrinth
Latest Artistic Project: I bought MOAR Halloween decorations.
Latest Fiction/Comic Release: Last Man Zombie Standing. See also: need to write more flipping comics and exercise my art skillz again. Feh.
Latest Game Release: Hunter the Vigil: Mortal Remains
What I’m Working On: Primarily tie-in games work, original comics, and novels.
